The Disappearing Rhythm
I live on the first floor of a rented apartment. Every night at 2 a.m., a slow pattern of three steps, a pause, then three steps again comes from outside my window. Day after day, it arrives perfectly on time, without any deviation. There are no passersby outside, no stray animals, no strange noises from street lamps, and no debris blown by wind.
