Story
I am a single dad, raising my 7-year-old daughter alone. I worked overtime until very late to get home today, and my daughter was already asleep. A drawing she made was left on the dining table — it is a drawing of a family of three: dad, mom and her, holding hands and smiling happily. My heart aches, because my wife left us three years ago.
I walked into the kitchen to heat up something to eat. When I opened the fridge, I found an extra bag of meat I had never bought in the freezer compartment. I took it out and looked at it; the label says "pork", dated today. I thought it was a bit strange, but still didn't think much of it, and boiled a bowl of meat soup to drink.
It tastes very fresh. I have never had such delicious meat before.
The next morning, after my daughter got up, she saw me, and suddenly widened her eyes, turned pale, trembled all over, and couldn't say a word. I asked her what was wrong, she just kept shaking her head, and tears kept falling down.
Later when I went to the kitchen to wash dishes, I found a torn supermarket receipt in the trash can. I pieced it together, and saw that what was bought was not pork at all.
I froze, and my stomach started churning violently.
My daughter stood at the kitchen door, and said a sentence to me in a trembling voice.
"Dad, mom actually never left us."
