Diary of a Girl

Age 8: Today is my 8th birthday! Mom and Dad gave me a toy car, I'm so happy! Age 9: This year for my birthday, Dad took us out for a big meal. My brother fell in the restroom. Dad and I laughed out loud. When we got back, Mom playfully scolded Dad and me. Age 10: Mom passed away... Dad's fate is unknown, I'm not in the mood for a birthday. Age 12: This year for my birthday, Dad gave me a Border Collie. They say it's the smartest dog! I'm so happy! I'll call him Buddy. Age 13: Dad taught me to study, because Dad is a writer, but Dad's books he won't let me read! Age 14: Buddy hasn't had much appetite lately. Dad said it's because we changed his dog food, and he'll be fine in a few days. I admire Dad so much, he knows everything! Age 15: Dad's books are bestsellers and even won awards! This year for my birthday, Dad cooked himself, it was delicious! But I get a headache when I hear cooking sounds. Age 16: Dad combed my hair, he touched my face and sadly said I was looking more and more like Mom. I know he misses Mom, and my heart aches for Dad. Age 17: After reading the book, my feelings were very complex, and I understood what my brother meant by showing me this book. I'm sorry, brother, I love Dad! I remember Dad saying my brother was especially afraid of hot things, so I scalded him with boiling water. Watching his desperate eyes, I smiled happily.
